The Boudoir Photography Experience

A boudoir photography session can be many things, whether you want to capture a certain time in your life, create a memorable gift, celebrate getting into shape, or just reconnect with your sexy side. And while you will walk away with just that, you’ll actually end up experiencing much more. You’ll see yourself in a different way and have fun. Karen and her staff will make you look your best. They use posing, lighting, visually striking sets, and retouching techniques that turn women at all stages in their lives- whether brides-to-be, soccer moms or boardroom execs- into cover girls.

Your Day at the Studio

The first thing that will happen when you arrive is your hair and makeup will be done by one of our talented artists (unless you arrange to have this done by an outside professional beforehand). Then you’ll sit down with Karen or Lysa to discuss your session. She will also review your outfits and accessories so she can determine which sets in the studio will best compliment the desired looks. You might have a few shots in mind yourself, for example, in your husband’s favorite team’s jersey or some setups you’ve seen on our website.

If you’re feeling a little nervous, don’t worry about it. Our photographers are seasoned pros who will coach you through your shoot. Boudoir Photography is all about you being comfortable and having fun. Also know that Karen and Lysa are highly skilled in photographing all body types and making them look beautiful. To maintain a comfortable environment in our studio for all of our clients, only women are allowed, including staff members. So please don’t bring husbands and boyfriends along. A week after your session, you will return to the studio to preview your fully retouched images and place your order.

Don’t be shy

Boudoir is for all Women

Boudoir Photography – Prep

Shoot Prep

  • Stay Well-hydrated and get plenty of sleep.

  • Paint those nails!

  • If doing a spray tan have photography session within a few days of tanning. If doing a flat bed tan do photography a few days after the tanning.

  • Shave your legs, underarms, and bikini line the morning of your session. If waxing have photography session about 3-5 days after waxing. Come to the studio in loose-fitting clothes to prevent dents or lines in your skin.

  • Arrive at your hair and makeup session with no makeup on and no product in your hair. Make sure hair is completely dry if you washed it earlier in the day.

  • Having your hair and makeup professionally done is critical for best results. Either purchase services from the studio or have it done by your own artists before you arrive.

  • Have fun!

What To Bring

  • Bring four or more lingerie outfits. Go for a sexy look: corsets, bustiers, bodysuits, body stockings, bra and panty sets. Other types of outfits can also work well, such as a sports jersey, bridal veil, sheer sexy shirt, etc. If you’re bringing any of these types outfits make sure to still bring 4 lingerie outfits. Don’t bring any babydolls. These fit very loosely and visually add about 20 pounds to the body. Outfits that are fitted (lay against the body) work best for all body types.

  • Thigh-high stockings—they’re a great way to lengthen your legs.

  • High heels!

  • Accessories are always fun (e.g., necklaces, rings, bracelets, hats).

  • It’s better if you bring too much clothing and accessories than not enough.

  • Stuffing clothing into bags will wrinkle them, so bring your clothing on hangers in a garment bag or plastic cover. Make sure all items have been ironed and are wrinkle free.

Boudoir Photography – Questions

I’m not my ideal weight. Can you still get great shots like the ones that are on your website?

Yes! We all have parts of our bodies that we prefer over others. Karen uses a variety of poses and lighting techniques to make our clients look their best. We are able to highlight your favorite areas and minimize those you like the least. With retouching, we can remove or soften wrinkles, cellulite, stretch marks, and blemishes. All women are beautiful, and we are skilled in showing that.

I’m not as young as I used to be, can you make me look good?

We have photographed women whose ages range from 20 to well into the 60s. We all need some retouching. Boudoir is for everyone.

Do I have to have my hair and makeup professionally done?

Having your hair and makeup done by a professional is important to a successful boudoir shoot, just like it is for models on magazine fashion shoots. You can have it done by one of our stylists or by your stylist before arriving at the studio. Our stylists charge $120 for hair and makeup. If your hair and makeup is professionally done by your own stylist, we give a $60 credit toward any images you purchase (bring your receipt if you have it done by an outside professional).

Will my images be used on the Internet?

Your photos are kept safe and private. We never display pictures of our clients on our website and blog, in print or in the studio without written permission to do so.

Do you retouch the photos?

Yes. Every photo that you receive has been extensively retouched. We remove or reduce cellulite, stretch marks, wrinkles; we smooth skin tones and do body contouring.

When do I see the photos?

The viewing appointment also takes place in our studio, one week after the photo session. Allow an hour for this appointment.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel your session at least 10 days prior to your scheduled session, you may receive a refund. If you cancel your session within 10 days of your scheduled session, there is no refund.

What if I want to reschedule my session?

We book sessions weeks and months in advance, which includes scheduling our hair and makeup stylists. When a client reschedules or cancels on short notice, we are often unable to re-book the vacant spot and are left with a 1.5 hour (no makeup client) or 3 hour (makeup client) empty block on our calendar. This means our photographer and makeup/hair stylist are idle at the studio while they wait for the next appointment. Therefore, we ask that clients try their best to make their scheduled appointments. If you need to reschedule, you must contact us at least 10 days prior to your session. If you contact us within 10 days, you will need to purchase another session. Sessions may be rescheduled only once; after that, another session will need to be purchased. Thanks for your understanding.
